Coming up next month in NY, “Her Lion’s Jump” will be screening at KidsFilmFest. Here’s the website for more info: http://www.kidsfilmfest.org/films/ I don’t know yet if I’ll be attending, but as usual, I’ll post any updates to this post with any news about it. Thank you all at KidsFilmFest for selecting my film, I’m glad you like it so much! So, in order to commemorate this rare occasion (of actually having my film selected at a film festival) here’s my animation reel for y’all.
PS: and yes, I did just post this video on my other blog… ;p
UPDATE 05/27/2009: It’s official, I will be attending the festival on June 14th! It will be my first time and probably my shortest trip to NY, but alas, hopefully it will “drive” me to go there more often in the future. So expect to see me here http://www.kidsfilmfest.org/films/ at The New Museum! Until then, be sure to come back here for more goodies, or check out my other blog here http://reggaenights.wordpress.com – new comic pages have just been posted there!

So here we go, yet another animation sequence for y’all. It’s been a month since I posted last here, but it’s okay because you know there is a lot of activity going on my other blog (check the side bar for Reggaenights’ Blog.) Wondercon was a lot of fun. The film did well, albeit with a small audience, but I think people liked it. The convention itself was much more manageable than SDCC, which was a relief since I haven’t been to San Diego in while, but I can remember that last time was just so crowded it wasn’t fun anymore. Either way, I might be going there again to resume my attendance this year if this little film of mine gets in their festival. Ah, how I wish this film could get into more festivals… Until then, enjoy!
PS: no other festival news as of yet, but I submitted the film to a bunch of festivals last month, so here’s hoping.

Yeah, sorry for the current slow down of posts on this blog, but I haven’t heard back from any other festivals yet, and some other things have come up. However, next up I’ll probably talk about my first Wondercon experience, and there maybe another groundwork jpeg post coming soon, so keep checking from time to time.

So, here’s a quick reminder about “Her Lion’s Jump” screenings this week. First one is tomorrow, Tues, Feb. 24th in Vancouver at the Reel2Real Film Festival for Youth. I thank them dearly for using an image from my film (see here: https://www.ticketturtle.com/index.php?theatre=r2r) to describe one of their programs, so thank you very much Reel2Real.
And the second screening is this Saturday, Feb 28th, at Wondercon! Here’s the website for some more information http://www.sfchildrensfilm.org/events.php and here’s the flyer for the film that will be available at the SFBAICFF booth and also directly from me since I WILL be attending the convention and the screening:
"Her Lion's Jump" promo flyer for Wondercon
See you there!
BONUS NOTE: I’m very happy that Reel2Real is also screening “Les Trois Brigand,” and I really regret not being able to be there to see it. The reason is that “Les Trois Brigand” by Tomi Ungerer is probably the first children’s book I remember being read to as a very young child, and it really scared me! The art is so dark and stark, and the story is quite harsh for very little kids. I have not seen this animated adaptation, but it’s just an interesting coincidence and an honor really. Who da thunk?

“Her Lion’s Jump” will be screening at the San Francisco Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival presented at Wondercon! Here’s the screening schedule http://www.sfchildrensfilm.org/events.php, but in short, it will screen sometime between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday, February 28th, so mark your calendars if you are in San Francisco, plan on going to San Francisco, Wondercon, or just mark your calendars 🙂
BONUS! “Her Lion’s Jump” will also screen on March 15th at the Children’s Discovery Museum in San Jose! The Children’s Film Festival will run films from 12pm to 5pm, so once I find out a more precise schedule for that, I will update it here.
UPDATE: I will be attending Wondercon, from February 27th to the 28th, so expect to see me wandering the exhibition hall on Friday and watching some short films on Saturday! It’s my first time at Wondercon, so I am definitely excited to go as a filmmaker as well!

In the tradition of the GAINAX “Groundwork of” books, I decided to showcase my own animation from “Her Lion’s Jump” as a bonus content to this blog. This was a short scene, so I decided to include all the frames, but for future posts in this series, I’ll try and keep the pages limited to key frames, with the occasional in between here and there. Unfortunately, I never had time to scan the layout drawings (which were incredibly messy by the way, but it would probably give you a better idea of my process) but if people want to see more, I guess I’ll try and find some stored away in boxes and scan them. Either way, I wish more animation studios would publish books that showcase animation art like this; as far as I know only GAINAX publishes them for most of their tv series and features. So, here’s to promoting an appreciation for animation.
PS: I’ll be collecting these types of posts in the “Groundwork” category on the side bar, and expect it to show up on a “Goodies” page that will appear on this blog soon.

For its first international screening, “Her Lion’s Jump” will be presented at the Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth in Vancouver, Canada. The festival will take place from February 20th to the 27th at the Roundhouse Community Centre and Vancity Theatre at the Vancouver International Film Centre (and that’s “centre” not “center” cuz you know, it’s Canada!)
I don’t know yet if I’ll be able to attend the festival, but if anyone is planning on going to Vancouver on those dates, or any Vancouver readers of this blog, go and check it out! Check this website for more specific screening date and time:
And check their facebook page too:
(Thank You Canada!)
