“Her Lion’s Jump” to Screen at SFBAICFF at Wondercon!

“Her Lion’s Jump” will be screening at the San Francisco Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival presented at Wondercon! Here’s the screening schedule http://www.sfchildrensfilm.org/events.php, but in short, it will screen sometime between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday, February 28th, so mark your calendars if you are in San Francisco, plan on going to San Francisco, Wondercon, or just mark your calendars :)

BONUS! “Her Lion’s Jump” will also screen on March 15th at the Children’s Discovery Museum in San Jose! The Children’s Film Festival will run films from 12pm to 5pm, so once I find out a more precise schedule for that, I will update it here.

UPDATE: I will be attending Wondercon, from February 27th to the 28th, so expect to see me wandering the exhibition hall on Friday and watching some short films on Saturday! It’s my first time at Wondercon, so I am definitely excited to go as a filmmaker as well!

Groundwork of Her Lion’s Jump – Seq04Sc06C32

In the tradition of the GAINAX “Groundwork of” books, I decided to showcase my own animation from “Her Lion’s Jump” as a bonus content to this blog. This was a short scene, so I decided to include all the frames, but for future posts in this series, I’ll try and keep the pages limited to key frames, with the occasional in between here and there. Unfortunately, I never had time to scan the layout drawings (which were incredibly messy by the way, but it would probably give you a better idea of my process) but if people want to see more, I guess I’ll try and find some stored away in boxes and scan them. Either way, I wish more animation studios would publish books that showcase animation art like this; as far as I know only GAINAX publishes them for most of their tv series and features. So, here’s to promoting an appreciation for animation.

PS: I’ll be collecting these types of posts in the “Groundwork” category on the side bar, and expect it to show up on a “Goodies” page that will appear on this blog soon.

“Her Lion’s Jump” to Screen at Reel 2 Real

For its first international screening, “Her Lion’s Jump” will be presented at the Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth in Vancouver, Canada. The festival will take place from February 20th to the 27th at the Roundhouse Community Centre and Vancity Theatre at the Vancouver International Film Centre (and that’s “centre” not “center” cuz you know, it’s Canada!)

I don’t know yet if I’ll be able to attend the festival, but if anyone is planning on going to Vancouver on those dates, or any Vancouver readers of this blog, go and check it out! Check this website for more specific screening date and time:

(Thank You Canada!)

I say goodbye to 2008… but “Her Lion’s Jump” still lives on in 2009!

So it’s been a while since I posted, and while there are no festival news on this post, I figured it was about time to post to remind people this blog isn’t dead, and neither am I. Of course, those in the know have been reading my other blog, and so if you’re new to this blog, you can see more of my work and thoughts there (http://reggaenights.wordpress.com.) I think I’ll probably save the new year’s resolution for that blog, but for now, I decided to post some random sketches and images from it. So first a REALLY, REALLY rough sketch, then an actual storyboard panel (oooh filmmaking secrets….), and finally, an actual image from the finished film itself (spoilers? maybe?)

Oh, and festivals, come on now, you know you wanna screen my film, right?

PS: Obama!

PPS: there will be more frequent posts here… no really, there’s something brewing behind the scenes. Happy 2009 everybody!

Her Lion’s Jump at The ASIFA-Hollywood Student Animation Festival 10/18… maybe?

Next up on the festival list is the Asifa-Hollywood Student Animation Festival… maybe. Why maybe? Well, I’m assuming that my film will play there, but so far haven’t gotten a schedule of events. Either way, I’ll be there, so if you want to meet me, and possibly watch my film along many other great shorts, come check it out. It’ll be all day Saturday, October 18th. Here’s the website for more info http://www.asifa-hollywood.org/2008/09/asifa-hollywood-student-animation.html.

Again, I’ll provide updates with further information. On the meantime, Sandy also wonders if she’ll make an appearance…

Her Lion’s Jump Screening at the LAICFF!!

That’s right, my film is selected to screen at the Los Angeles International Children’s Film Festival! It will screen on Sunday, October 12th. I don’t know the exact time when it will screen since the festival website hasn’t been updated yet. But, I’ll be sure to update this post as soon as I find out. You can also check the festival website at http://www.lachildrensfilm.org/.

Meanwhile, enjoy an early sketch of Fred from a couple of years ago.

(He’s roaring in excitement for this post.)

Update: “Her Lion’s Jump” will screen on Sunday October 12th, at the Kidspace Museum in Pasadena, CA, sometime between 11:45am and 12:45pm. See this site for further details http://www.lachildrensfilm.org/events.psp

Though I’m sure there will be some cross polination…

Enjoy,

Her Lion’s Jump Official Site Now Open!

The film site is finally up! Update your bookmarks for www.herlionsjump.com. Now, there’s still a bit of tweaking to do on the html and I think depending on your internet connection the clips might skip on a first viewing. So, please let me know of any concerns and criticisms concerning the site as I try to address them little by little. Also, I probably won’t have the whole film online for a while, as some film festivals have restrictions regarding films that appear online first, and I want to try and get this film to as many festivals as I can. But, hopefully if I start getting into some, maybe you’ll be able to see my film in a festival near you! Most of all, please enjoy!

:)

Welcome to Her Lion’s Jump Blog

Hello Internet! I’m Régis Camargo, the writer, director, animator, and designer of the short film “Her Lion’s Jump.” Here you’ll find information regarding the film’s festival screenings, a link to the film’s website (coming soon,) and anything else regarding the film’s production, content, and purpose.

More links, information about me, and goodies will follow. I apologize in advance for the slow start and updates, but I’m just getting into blogging now, so just be a little patient. Don’t worry, it’ll be worth it.

:)
